The Role

Are you an experienced electrician and available in the afternoon and evening? Could you help us continue to provide a high quality, responsive service for our internal customers, and ensure our students living on site have access to an exceptional level of facilities?

We have opportunities for two Approved Electricians to join our team of around 40 multi-disciplinary and professional trades people which carries out reactive and planned maintenance across the University. The team are responsible for keeping our buildings running effectively and efficiently. They also ensure statutory compliance and regulatory requirements are met, and where possible we aim to exceed these requirements. If you know that you also work to high standards and take pride in your professional trades skills we would welcome your application.

You will be part of a small team, ideally working a 2pm to 10pm shift (12pm to 8pm may be available subject to discussion at interview) reporting to the Electrical Maintenance Manager.

There will be a 6% supervisor's allowance potentially available for a candidate with appropriate experience (to be discussed at interview).

The Person

The successful applicant will have:
City & Guilds level 2 or 3 or equivalent qualification in an electrical engineering discipline and will hold a BS7671 qualification, including testing for the latest edition of the regulations.
Proven experience of working as an electrician in a maintenance environment with a mix of PPM and reactive work, including fault-finding and resolution.
The ability to work as part of a mixed-disciplinary team.
A current awareness and understanding of statutory and regulatory requirements relating to your work.
A measured and effective approach under pressure with the ability to remain professional with colleagues, customers and other stakeholders at all times.

The University offers a generous annual leave entitlement; for a full-time member of staff in this role it is 38 days per year. This is made up of 30 days Contractual Leave, 8 Public Holidays and 5 Customary Days taken when the University is closed at Christmas.
Upon appointment all eligible staff can become members to a contributory, defined benefit occupational pension scheme.
Annual salary increments are usually applied on 1 October each year (subject to start date and spine point for example).
