Newly Graduated Mechanical Engineer – Commercial Engineer


Due to expansion an exciting opportunity has arisen at Kenard Engineering Company based in Dartford, for a newly graduated Mechanical Engineer to work in the commercial department, working closely with the Operations Department. Kenard Engineering is a well established, privately owned manufacturing company specialising in CNC flexible machining, using state of the art multi-pallet machine tools, manufacturing components for the aerospace and telecommunications industries.

Reporting to the Operations Director, some flexibility is required and duties will include:

• Supporting the sales team in the compilation of commercial estimates and tenders ensuring that financial targets are maintained

• Assisting in the accuracy of estimates, the post-holder will be expected to discuss manufacturing times, methods, material & sub contracting costs with relevant personnel

• To obtain quotations from material & sub contract suppliers as required

• To provide information to the sales team and to produce estimated delivery schedules at the time of quotation

• From time to time and as directed by the Operations Director the post-holder will be required to act as a Project Manager for specific customers or orders

• To liaise with Production on the delivery requirements and work load implications of potential orders

This position has a starting salary of £21,000 per annum depending on experience.
However, training will be given and no formal experience is required.

HV Wooding Ltd have been established for over 40 years and are based in Hythe, Kent. We are a highly successful manufacturing business with our core competencies being presswork, bus bar manufacture, CNC wire erosion and CNC machining with high levels of customer service.

We are looking to recruit a toolmaker for our busy tool room to repair and modify tooling and to assist in the continuous improvement of tooling by means of experience and knowledge. Toolmaking in presswork with an apprenticeship would be preferred.

The ideal candidate should be able to work under their own initiative and have the ability to solve day to day tooling issues and be able to work to tight deadlines.

Knowledge of working in a similar environment is essential for this role as is being a good team player.

The main duties will be –

Manufacturing jigs, fixtures, and new tools.
Repair and planned preventative maintenance on existing tools.
Carry out tool repairs to multistage progression tools and second operation tools and fixtures.
Modify tooling to improve production.
To assist in the continuous improvement ideas for making tooling more reliable.
To assist in the training of apprentices and trainees as required.

Knowledge and experience on process improvements within manufacturing is required incorporating lean work and 5’s on production lines.

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Group Leader to join our Civil Engineering department. Working at our terminal in Folkestone you will manage the UK Civil Maintenance team, organising civil maintenance activiites in the Tunnel and on the UK Terminal to ensure the availability of all essential infrastructure.
This position plays a key role in ensuring maintenance acitivies meet the highest level of safety and compliance with internal procedures and legislation.

You will ideally hold a civil engineering degree or be qualified to HND or equivalent. Health & Safety certification, such as NEBOSH or IOSH is advantageous. This position requires the individual to have a minimum of 5 years previous experience of working in a civil engineering environment and a minimum of 2 years in a leadership role.

The Group Leader works day shifts, Monday to Friday, but is required to work occasional unsocial hours to meet the business need. Participation in an on call roster is also required.

Key Responsibilities
Liaison with client and upper management to ensure project is delivered on time and in budget
Management of in house and subcontractor labour and overseeing mechanical packages
Liaison with Site Manager/Supervisors to ensure that project is being delivered as effectively as possible both operationally and commercially.
Attend client meetings
Representing the business in a professional manner to the client and key stakeholders alike
Quality Assurance and Management
Enforce and comply with company health and safety regulations
Attendance at Commissioning/witness testing
General paperwork management; RFIs, Method Statements, Risk Assessments, Site diaries, Project programmes, snagging Lists, O&M Documentation, general correspondence between the client, contractors and design consultancies.
Design reviews, onsite installation and general problem solving related to unforeseen issues related to the installation of services
Preparing the site for completion and client handover
Liaising with teams to conclude the final accounts
Ensure the provision of a Safe and Healthy working environment.

Accountabilities

Adhere to company policies on all Health & Safety and Environmental Health guidelines.
Adhere to company policies, on standards, codes of conduct, COSSH, and current government legislation. (Engineers are updated on a regular basis).
Communicate regularly with all Supervisory and Management staff and specialist subcontractors .
Accountable to the Project Managing Director.

Requirements
Strong Technical Awareness
Proven track record of delivering large scale projects for blue-chip M&E clients.
Ability to work to a tight programme.
Strong leadership: you will be in charge of keeping a large work force motivated to deliver the project to the highest standard.
Have a good background in mechanical building systems both installation & maintenance.
Ability to communicate with people at all levels.
Be a team player with a flexible and adaptable approach.
Have a sound understanding of current company and legislative Health and Safety, Environmental Impacts and Risk Assessment Procedures.
Be able to provide both summarised and detailed reports, on current operations department activities when requested to do so.
Hold a recognised project management qualification.

Experience

Previous experience in M&E Project Managerial role
Market and sector knowledge.
Understands and applies appropriate employee legislation, safety, health and environment regulations.
IT literate to intermediate level - CAFM systems, MS Office and Project.
Will be able to clearly and aptly communicate professionally both written and orally.
Clean current driving licence.

Working at our terminal in Folkestone you will be part of a team of technicians employed in maintaining the operational availability of Tunnel and Terminal Infrastructure. Much of the maintenance is undertaken at night and weekends so you must be prepared to work unsocial hours and also participate in an on call rota.

You must have a Civil Engineering qualification, ideally to HND/HNC or equivalent with 2 years work experience in a technical environment. A lower qualification may be considered with a minimum of 5 years work experience.
