Senior Database Analyst

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Database Analyst to join our Business Information Systems Department.



The Senior Database Analyst is responsible for the performance, integrity and security of all SEW databases. They will also be involved in the planning and development of databases, managing the Oracle license estate with a view to ensuring compliance whilst minimising expenditure, as well as troubleshooting any issues on behalf of IT colleagues and business users.



Main responsibilities

* Monitoring performance and managing parameters to provide fast responses to end users
* Installing and testing new versions of the DBMS
* Refreshing, patching and upgrading test and production databases as required
* Developing, managing and testing back-up and recovery plans
* Ensuring that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly
* Working closely with IT project managers and developers to define and deliver an optimum database platform for new systems
* Working closely with other BIS support teams, the post holder provides query tuning advice and other assistance as required.
* Commissioning and installing new applications and customising existing applications in order to make them fit for purpose
* Working with security and infrastructure colleagues to ensure databases are secure and compliant with data protection legislation
* Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata)
* Provide 2nd and 3rd line support to the Helpdesk and manage further support with suppliers to resolve system issues.
* Participating in a 1-in-4 standby rota ensuring business continuity is maintained to agreed levels



The successful candidate will hold a degree and/or equivalent training, knowledge and skills gained through at least 5 years' experience as a DBA. Good organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills are essential attributes for this role, along with flexibility and team working skills.



The post holder must also be a great communicator. Significant experience with Oracle 11g or 12c database administration (on Microsoft Windows) in a support environment and some experience with Microsoft SQL Server administration is required. The role requires an ability to work to tight deadlines under pressure. A willingness to stay up-to-date with advances in technology and data protection legislation, and build awareness of how IT can contribute to SEW's business objectives, is essential.
