The Role

Knauf, a market leader in the construction product industry are currently looking for a highly skilled individual to join our manufacturing plant as a Manufacturing Team Leader (Calcination Chargehand). We are looking for someone with strong leadership skills and knowledge of continuous and batch manufacturing.

Responsibilities

As a Manufacturing Team Leader (Calcination Chargehand), your key responsibilities will be as follows:

• Line management of 2 direct reports and temporary staff.
• Responsible for ensuring the safe running of the calcination operation and associated manufacturing procedures.
• Ensures that the ‘kettle’ is operated at optimal levels at all times.
• Equipment adjusted to produce Stucco to quality targets at all times.
• Direct involvement in training opportunities to develop self and plant knowledge.
• Effective handover of plant to ensure all issues that may affect the purpose of operation are communicated clearly between shifts.
• Efficient identification of equipment problems to prevent operational failure, pursuing timely preventive action to ensure efficient plant performance.
• Demonstrates a willingness to meet and exceed targets set. Acts and communicates in a way that will encourage other team members to succeed in meeting targets set.
• Contribute to the introduction and development of an effective maintenance schedule to timely identify faults and prevent unplanned plant failure.
• To ensure that any instructions from management are complied with in a timely and effective manner.
• Responsible for ensuring compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures in relation to all associated staff and machinery.
• Pro-active approach to support other team members in the execution of their duties.
• The development of positive straight talking relationships with all team members, direct reports and the wider site team.

Requirements

• A minimum of GCSE grade C or above in Maths & English, or an equivalent level qualification.
• Previous experience within continuous and batch manufacturing environments is essential.
• Supervisory experience is essential.
• Competent understanding of the correct operation of production equipment.
• Specific understanding of the production of stucco & associated quality tests would be advantageous.
• Basic understanding of preventative maintenance and general understanding of mechanical & electrical control.
• Ability to carry out basic mechanical activities to allow the inspection & maintenance of plant.
• Ability to influence /lead others to meet production targets and improve their performance.
• Understanding the function and operation of a permit system.
• Knowledge of plant operation procedure.
• Knowledge of safety procedures.
• Knowledge of quality procedure.
