Job Summary

The department already has a strong established focus on contemporary music and is now looking for someone with a more classical background. The right individual will complement the already existing team to develop and deepen the quality and range of music further within the School.

Principal Accountabilities

• To teach an agreed timetable of key stage 3 music lessons and to provide in class support for music examination classes;
• To accompany and support key music ensembles including choir, orchestra, string ensemble, jazz band and production chorus;
• To prepare students for Music Aural and Theory examinations;
• To assist with the accompanying of school trips during weekdays and weekends;
• Responsible for covering lessons in the event of an emergency and a duty evening each week and one duty weekend in three;
• To contribute to the life of the Boarding School by helping to organise concerts and House events, or in such other ways as will utilise or develop the skills of the Graduate Resident Assistant;
• Required to sleep in School accommodation every night during term-time;
• Any other ad-hoc duties as reasonably requested by the Music team and the Headmaster.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience Essential:

1. Hold relevant degree qualification in Music or hold an equivalent qualification;
2. Able to play and teach at least one musical instrument;
3. Able to accompany music ensembles, rehearsals and services;
4. Good organisational skills with the ability to work to deadlines;
5. Flexible approach to work.

Desirable:

1. Able to play and teach more than two Musical instruments;
2. Able to provide audio technical support for music concerts, drama productions and whole school events;
3. Willingness to assist with extra-curricular activities;
4. Ability to work one-to-one with Music Scholars;
5. A desire and ability to complete a PGCE Qualification.

Terms of Employment

• Term-time Contract (36 weeks per year);
• Salary £12,240.00 per annum
