Salary: £30,000 - £35,000

We are working with an independent school for boys based in Sutton, Surrey. They currently have around 400 pupils with its history go right back to the mid 1800`s and they became a charitable trust in the 1960`s. Their academic success and scholarship rates are exceptional.

Reporting to the Bursar, the Deputy Bursar is a qualified accountant who ensures that all professional accounting standards are complied with and best practice in company and charity finance management underpins all procedures. As a result, the post holder is responsible for all financial matters and is expected to prepare and deliver financial briefings to the school`s Governing body. They will also be required to deputise for the Bursar as required.

The Deputy Bursar`s primary responsibility is to provide an effective financial reporting and control function for the School and its funds, trusts and subsidiary companies in compliance with current charity, company and other statutory legislation so that;

(a) the Governors` responsibilities in this respect may be satisfied
(b) the financial position of the School may be disclosed with reasonable accuracy at any time. Other responsibilities include the preparation of management and statutory accounts, liaising with external auditors, and managing a small team, which maintains the accounting and fee records.

Education and Qualifications Essential

Qualified accountant (AAT, ACA, ACCA, ACMA)
At least 5 years accountancy experience post qualification.
Membership of a professional body such as ICAEW/ACCA.
Strong technical financial and management accounting skills
Experience of Excel, Word, Email, PowerPoint, Databases and Management Information Systems.
A thorough knowledge and experience of producing monthly management accounts accurately and to deadlines
Experience of working with integrated financial packages, specifically SIMS FMS
Experience in the operation of accounting systems, controls and processes; and the management of key financial functions

Desirable

Working in an educational environment.
Experience of Charity accounting.
Evidence of continued professional development.
Experience of VAT, payroll, PAYE and NI.
Pensions, e.g. Teachers` Pensions.
Good knowledge of payroll processing and year end returns.
Experience in preparing annual budgets where responsibility is devolved to budget holders.

Salary & Package

Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 per annum
Normal working hours: 8.30 am - 4.30 pm Monday to Friday, including 45-minute unpaid lunch break
5 weeks holiday per annum
Pension: Employer contributions to a defined contribution pension scheme
Lunch is available free of charge whilst the school is in session

The successful candidate will require an enhanced DBS clearance.
