Graduate Sports Assistant

£10,000 plus accommodation and meals*

Required from 29th August 2019 for a one year, fixed term contract, we are looking to appoint a Graduate Sports Assistant, ideally with a specialism in Hockey or Netball. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of coaching sports across all three parts of the school (ages 3-18). Accommodation will be provided for the length of the contract and *meals will be provided during term time. Day to day responsibilities to include (not exhaustive)
• leading teams in the girls’ major sports (Hockey, Netball, Cricket) during lessons and at fixtures, in both the Preparatory and Senior Schools;
• assist PE staff in the delivery of core PE to pupils in the Pre-Preparatory, Preparatory and Senior Schools;
• participate in the school’s extra-curricular and after-school activities programme;
• accompany teams to fixtures and tours outside of normal school hours;
• assist with Open Days and Games/Sports specific events;
• assist with mentoring and supporting sports scholars in the major sports;
• be responsible for the tidiness and upkeep of the sports equipment in both the Preparatory and Senior Schools and informing the Director of Sport of any issues;
• assist with the planning and delivery of tournaments hosted by King’s Rochester;
• to assist with the planning and delivery of pre-season and academy training sessions;
• be an integral part of the school community.

Role outside of the games department:
• assist in boarding duties mid-week in the girls’ boarding house;
• engage in the range of activities available at the weekend;
• supervise boarding pupils in a mid-week fitness and/or sports based activity.

The successful applicant should:
• hold a relevant, sports-based degree;
• ideally hold a coaching qualification in at least one of the major girls sports: Hockey, Cricket, Netball
• have relevant playing experience in at least two of the major sports listed above;
• be comfortable officiating/refereeing in at least one of the major sports;
• demonstrate a fun, creative, adaptable and innovative approach to teaching and coaching;
• have a knowledge of, and willingness to adopt, best teaching practices;
• demonstrate and promote a positive ethos, including respect, hard work, discipline and exceptional behaviour;
• have good organisational, inter-personal and communication skills;
• be able to work alone and in a team as required;
• be a sporting role model to all pupils;
• possess a good sense of humour.
