The Role
Are you an experienced electrician and available in the afternoon and evening? Could you help us continue to provide a high quality, responsive service for our customers, and ensure our students living on site have access to an exceptional level of facilities?
We have an opportunity for an Approved Electrician to join our team of around 40 multi-disciplinary and professional trades people which carries out reactive and planned maintenance across the University. The team are responsible for keeping our buildings running effectively and efficiently. They also ensure statutory compliance and regulatory requirements are met, and where possible we aim to exceed these requirements. You will be part of a small team, working a 12pm to 8pm shift reporting to the Electrical Maintenance Manager or his/her nominee.
There will be a 6% supervisor's allowance potentially available for a candidate with appropriate experience (to be discussed at interview).

The Person
City & Guilds level 2 or 3 or equivalent qualification in an electrical engineering discipline and will hold a BS7671 qualification, including testing for the latest edition of the regulations.
Proven experience of working as an electrician in a maintenance environment with a mix of PPM and reactive work, including fault-finding and resolution.
The ability to work as part of a mixed-disciplinary team.
A current awareness and understanding of statutory and regulatory requirements relating to your work.
A measured and effective approach under pressure with the ability to remain professional with colleagues, customers and other stakeholders at all times.

The Department
The Estates Department provides a number of essential services to the University of Kent and is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the extensive grounds and buildings; the security of students, staff and visitors; transport and travel; a postal service and the telephone exchange as well as the University Design & Print Centre. It is also responsible for the buildings, new development and construction projects both at Canterbury and at our Medway campus at Chatham Maritime and on the Chatham Historic Dock Yard.
