The Role

The Estates Customer Services team is the initial point of contact for all Estates-related enquiries at the University. Acting as the key operational hub, managing the process of fault reporting and relevant repair activities, the Customer Services Advisers take ownership of queries reported to the team by processing and prioritising requests and ensuring the customer is kept up to date with the status of their request.

The hours of operation for Estates Customer Services are 8am - 5pm, Monday to Friday (except Bank Holidays and the University Christmas closure period). The Estates Customer Services team work on a rotational basis to cover these hours.


The Person

To be successful, you will have:

GCSE English and Maths (Grade C or above) or equivalent;

Proven experience of working in a professional customer services environment;

Experience of using large scale, complex electronic databases, including interrogation of data and reporting on results;

Excellent IT skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, sharepoint and databases)

The Customer Services Adviser is a key customer facing team for the Estates Department, it is essential that you have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate with a wide range of people. The ability to remain calm in a busy and sometimes challenging environment, handling competing demands is also an important quality that you will need to have. The team is also small, therefore good collaboration skills and being able to work as part of a team is crucial.


Estates Department

The Estates Department provides a number of essential services to the University of Kent and is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the extensive grounds and buildings; the security of students, staff and visitors; transport and travel; a postal service and the telephone exchange as well as the University Design & Print Centre. It is also responsible for the buildings, new development and construction projects both at Canterbury and at our Medway campus at Chatham Maritime and on the Chatham Historic Dock Yard.
