Head of Marketing & Communications

Circa £45,000 per annum.

Canterbury, Kent

The Dean and Chapter of Canterbury

Are you a marketing and communications specialist with a passion for culture, heritage, conservation, education and much more? Do you have experience implementing national and international campaigns? Are you looking for a new challenge? If so, this exciting new role may be you?

Canterbury Cathedral is developing highly ambitious plans that will require a significant step change in our ability to deliver. We are currently looking for an exceptional and creative individual to lead our newly created Marketing & Communications department and catapult it to the next level, nurturing and promoting Canterbury’s global reputation.

The main responsibilities of the Head of Marketing & Communications will be to develop, implement and lead on the marketing, communications and digital strategy for Canterbury Cathedral, with the goal being to engage a wide range of audiences (nationally and internationally) in the activities of the Cathedral.

Working with colleagues from across the entire Cathedral community, you will be responsible for ensuring that all visitors and market-led thinking and insights are considerations in our decision-making processes and strategies.

You will be responsible for coordinating a wide range of marketing, communications and engagement projects, as well as overseeing the planning and day-to-day running of our digital and social communications channels.

Reporting into the Executive Director, Strategic Development, you will head up a small but dedicated team. Along with a professional marketing or communications qualification, you will need plenty of practical team management experience. You will also be well-versed in all aspects of strategic communications – from leading multi-channel campaigns, to advising senior colleagues and supporting issues management.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience ideally within the cultural/heritage/arts sector, and will be in sympathy with, and in their work support, the Christian aims and mission of Canterbury Cathedral.
