About us:

The South of England Rare Breeds Centre (RBC) is a busy tourist attraction with more than 130,000 visitors a year. As part of Canterbury Oast Trust, a leading local charity, our shop sells a great range of gifts and local produce to support the work of the Trust in its provision of first class care and support for adults with learning disabilities across Kent and East Sussex .

The Gift Shop also provides valuable training opportunities for the adults with learning disabilities enabling them to develop their retail and customer service skills.

The Role:

We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic Gift Shop and Admissions Assistant to help our Admissions and Front of House Manager with the smooth running of the Gift Shop and Farm Admissions. This is a permanent part time post of 50 hours per month and includes working alternate weekends.

You must be available to work a weekday shift plus alternate weekends. You will be allocated shifts on a monthly basis throughout the year. Additional shifts during the school holidays mainly Easter, Summer and Half Term breaks may also be available,There will also be some bank holiday working as per rota.

The role of Gift Shop and Admissions Assistant involves:

o Dealing with admissions to the RBC
o Processing memberships
o Dealing with the general public
o Preparing the shop for opening
o Dealing with inquiries and answering telephone calls
o Working alongside adults with learning disabilities as they develop their retail skills
o Undertaking duties on behalf of the Admissions and Front of House Manager during her absence


About You:

The ideal Gift Shop and Admissions Assistant will have:

o some general experience within a similar establishment
o a friendly and engaging personality
o be a good team player
o be flexible and reliable
o be able to use their initiative
o be able to remain calm whilst working in a busy public facing environment


All appointments are subject to proof of eligibility to work in the UK; an enhanced check with the Disclosure and Barring Service and two satisfactory references.
