BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT EXECUTIVE

JOB OVERVIEW

The role holder will be responsible for working with several key sector groups to develop and deliver their BD strategy in line with objectives. You will be seen as a key member of the team, proactively contributing, championing and instilling BD best practice.

The role holder’s primary stakeholders are the partners and fee-earners within the relevant sector groups – namely, Healthcare; Advertising, Technology and Media (ATM); Financial Services; Consumer Markets; and, Charities. A key part of the role is promoting my clients sector offering to other parts of the business and within BDM. The role holder will liaise with external parties such as suppliers, clients and referrers.

MAIN DUTIES

Strategy and planning

With direction from the Head of BD, work with the division head, team leaders and relevant BDM team members to develop the BD and marketing plan, providing insight and ideas
Keep updated with industry issues to identify market opportunities for new products or services
Monitor the BD action plan(s) to help ensure that the strategy is delivered
Challenge fee-earners on the purpose, desired outcomes and ROI of ideas suggested falling outside of the agreed plan
Promote use of systems to facilitate accurate targeting, tracking and reporting
Targeting & prospecting

Propose and develop business development campaign ideas to target key audiences with a focus on lead generation and project manage with support from wider BDM team as required
Collate regular intelligence on competitors to identify BD opportunities
Work with fee-earners to develop plans to actively target prospects and track progress through BD meetings, pipeline management, using CRM system
Develop/leverage relationships with counterparts at referrers to further collaborative marketing and assure regular dialogue
Pitches, proposals and tender submissions

Project manage all aspects of the tender process from initial qualification through to document management and presentation rehearsals
Work with lawyers to produce good quality pitch documents, writing compelling messages which are bespoke to the prospect’s needs
Coordinate obtaining pitch feedback
Track wins, losses and lessons learnt to feed back in to pitch strategy
Client relationship management and key client and referrer activities

Research, track and retain a working knowledge of the key clients, targets and referrers in the sector
Work with Client Insights Manager and CRMs to identify key accounts to retain and grow them
Advocate client reviews and instil learnings through teams
Profile raising

Take ownership of campaigns and events, ensuring activity has clearly identified audiences and goals, providing relevant BD hooks for content, managing marketing lists and setting ROI targets, and liaising with the Events & Campaigns Executive to deliver the activity
Prepare drafts and manage the process for relevant legal directories and award submissions to put my client in the strongest possible position
Keep track of transaction/client activity and liaise with comms team to promote externally when appropriate
Draft, research and produce relevant online and offline content for marketing materials or campaigns as appropriate
Management of information, projects and budgets

Ensure success stories, networking opportunities and other relevant BDM news is communicated internally
Analyse outcomes against costs, report and recommend changes as appropriate
Manage the division’s marketing budget and ensure the team remains on budget
General
Support other members of the BDM team to develop and deliver firm-wide marketing and BD initiatives as needed
Provide an additional resource to support the wider BD & Marketing function as required by the Director of BD & Marketing
EXPERIENCE
· Experience within a professional services environment, ideally legal. Knowledge of and experience in the real estate sector is highly desirable.
· A minimum of 4 years within a marketing role with operational responsibility for business development activities
· Experience of business development, specifically key account management, sales pipelines and bids
· Mutli-channel campaign management
·Wide experience of using a variety of IT packages (mainly MS Office), databases and new technology solutions
·Accustomed to dealing with external clients, referrers, suppliers, senior internal colleagues and support staff at all levels
· Accustomed to working without close supervision but maintaining a regular information flow particularly with team members and all internal clients
Qualifications

Preferably a graduate, ideally with a marketing or business studies qualification such as the CIM postgraduate diploma or equivalent. However, experience is more important than academic qualifications

SALARY AND BENEFITS
