Cedar House is a 40 bed hospital for adults with learning disabilities, mental health issues, personality disorders, autism and challenging behaviours, who are detained under the Mental Health Act. Cedar House enjoys a beautiful rural location situated in the village of Barham, on the outskirts of Canterbury and is easily accessible by public transport, being on the main bus route between Canterbury and Folkestone.
We are seeking Activity Co-ordinators to join us in a newly created role within our Education and Therapy Department.
The Role:
• You will co-ordinate, lead, prepare and provide meaningful activities for patients, working alongside Occupational Therapists and nursing and care staff.
• You will attend daily meetings, presenting an outline of the planned activities for the day to staff, addressing any risk areas as required.
• Provide opportunities for patients to access community-based activities of interest, and provide individual and group sessions on a range of activities such as craft, cooking and maintenance.
• Complete all relevant paperwork, update electronic systems and maintain statistics of activity provision in order to evaluate patient uptake and effectiveness.
• You will provide input into patient meetings and contribute to their occupational care pathway.
The Person:
• Experience working within a secure environment or have experience working with adults with learning disabilities.
• You will have a background in delivering or supporting activities such as sports, craft or domestic tasks.
• Understand the benefits of engaging patients in meaningful activities and be able to articulate this to patients
• Excellent leadership skills coupled with an ability to effectively organise a meaningful day for patients.
