As Senior Security Officer, you will deputise for the Security Supervisor in their absence and to be familiar with all aspects of the role to provide an effective security service to the University site to include all buildings and the campus grounds.
Acting as a front line contact on a daily basis, the Security Officers play a key role in developing and fostering relationships with our students, staff and visitors to assist in promoting a community feeling on campus.
The role involves actively working as part of the wider team to deliver a first class service, through flexibility to adapt to the varied needs of large, diverse campus and population. It is key that the role holder has an understanding that situations must be dealt with safely and effectively, which means the duties outlined cannot be definitive, situations will often require informed personal judgement calls and may (on occasions) necessitate ongoing attendance after official shift end times.
The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience of a customer focussed working environment, with the awareness and the ability to provide a high quality service at all times. Experience of working in a similar or related security environment, of managing potentially volatile situations and dealing with conflict are all required.
It is essential to have excellent oral and written communication skills (including the ability to clearly relay information in person and via a radio communication system) and applicants should have working knowledge of MS Office programmes including Word, Excel and internet/emails. The ability to monitor operational requirements on a daily basis and provide positive feedback to management and team alike is key. Previous staff supervision experience would be an advantage but is not essential.
The ability to undertake the physical tasks and manual handling duties to the level outlined in the job specification is essential and flexibility to work a shift rota which covers 24/7 throughout the year (including Bank holidays, weekends, evenings and night shifts) is required.
