Connect2Kent are seeking a temporary business analyst to join our public sector client within their ICT department.
Purpose of the Job:
Carry out investigative work to determine business requirements for small to medium projects or assisting more senior business analysts on strategic projects/programmes. Specify effective business processes, through improvements in information systems, information management, practices, procedures, and organisation change.
Main duties and responsibilities:
1. Work with colleagues and clients/users to investigate and model business functions, processes, and information flows, using various methodical and consistent techniques.
2. Elicit requirements from operational management and other stakeholders. Record work with appropriate documentation, meeting the required standards, and use suitable methods and tools.
3. Take part in client/user meetings and facilitates presenting issues and solutions both orally and in writing.
4. Define scope and business priorities for small-scale changes and may assist in larger scale scoping exercises.
5. Select appropriate techniques for the elicitation of detailed requirements taking into account the nature of the required changes, established practice and the characteristics and culture of those providing the requirements.
6. Use established techniques as directed to identify current problems and elicit, specify and document business functional, data and non-functional requirements for simple subject areas with clearly-defined boundaries.
7. Maintain awareness of modelling techniques and select appropriate modelling techniques for meeting assigned objectives, and model current and desired future scenarios as directed.
Qualifications
Educated to degree level or equivalent professional qualification and/or experience
Foundation Certificate in Business Analysis
Experience
Experience in a directly relevant field
Experience of process modelling
Experience of business case development
Skills and Abilities required
Operations Management – Capable of using methods, techniques and tools for planning, organising, resourcing, directing, co-ordinating and monitoring on-going (non- project) activities
Conceptual Thinking - Acquiring understanding of the underlying issues in complex problems or situations by correctly relating these to simpler or better understood concepts, models or previous experiences
Oral and Written Expression - Communicating effectively by word of mouth and in writing
Knowledge required
Structured Reviews – Capable of using methods and techniques for structured reviews, including reviews of technical diagrams, test plans, business cases and any other key deliverables
Business Characteristics – Knowledge of the functional structure of businesses and other organisations; their mission, objectives, strategies and critical success factors
Technical Field – Proficient in theory, current practice and latest developments in the relevant field of computer science, telecommunications, software engineering or information systems
Corporate Industry and Professional Standards – Proficient in specific standards associated with the role.
