CHARITY DIRECTOR AND GOVERNOR VACANCIES

The John Townsend Trust is recruiting for Directors and Governors with skills and knowledge in the following areas:
Directors: Facilities, Adult Social Services, HR, Commercial Enterprise, Agriculture, Law, Health Care, Special Educational Needs and Mental Health.
Governors: Education, Health & Safety, Safeguarding, HR, Complex needs, Special Educational Needs and Mental Health.
The Trust’s origins lie in 1792 and its goal continues to be to provide education and care for d/Deaf children and young people or young people with communication difficulties, who may have additional needs, for a positive future within work and their communities. The Trust is a varied and interesting employer with almost 500 staff.

The organisation now comprises:
• The Royal School for Deaf Children Margate
• Westgate College
• Residential Children’s Home
• Community Living Services
• Monkshill Farm, Farm Shop and Café
• Charity Shops
• Skills Development Centre
• Hydrotherapy Centre and Multi-Disability Gym

The Trust is looking for new Directors and Governors who are aligned to the ethos and objectives of The Trust, and who would enjoy the opportunity to contribute the expertise to provide the robust governance that is needed to keep The Trust to its mission and to help achieve its goals.

Previous experience in a Director or Governor role is not essential. These posts are voluntary and unremunerated although travel expenses are paid. The Board of Directors and Governors meet at least four times a year, during the day, in East Kent and an appropriate time commitment will be required over the course of the year for the preparative work required in between meetings together with attendance at relevant functions and events. A willingness to serve on working parties and committees and take on monitoring or auditing visits as appropriate is important.
