The Role

We are seeking to appoint to the post of Research Accounts Manager to lead the team responsible for the post-award financial management of externally funded research and related projects at the University.

You will be responsible for the effective and efficient handling and reporting of research project finances, ensuring that funds are maximised for the research purposes for which they were obtained.

This an excellent opportunity for you to develop your skills and professional networks whilst playing a key role in supporting the increase in externally funded research activity at the University.

The Person

You will be a qualified accountant with proven experience in a management or financial accounts role, together with a track record of successfully managing and motivating staff and good recent knowledge of technical accounting issues and regulations.

Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, and in particular the ability to communicate to non-specialists the meaning of information contained in financial reports and spreadsheets, are essential.

Experience of the UK HE sector is highly desirable, preferably in a research administration environment.

Research Services

The Research Services office consists of 25 staff whose work covers the development of grant winning capacity, advice and support for staff preparing and submitting applications, the management of research contracts and accounts, development and maintenance of data bases and information systems to support and report on research income, oversight of research governance and ethics procedures, and management of preparations for submissions to the Research Excellence Framework (REF). Five posts report to the Director for these functions (Research Funding Manager, Contracts Manager, Research Accounts Manager [this post], Research Data Systems Officer and Research Ethics and Governance Officer).
