Coroner’s Officer

Temporary appointment for up to 6 months (further extensions may be possible)

Full time based in Maidstone

The Coroners Service in Kent is currently going through an unprecedented period of change and this is an exciting time to join us to help shape the future delivery of the service to Kent and Medway residents. This is a new post that we are trialling on a temporary basis pending a re-structure of the Coroners Officer function. The appointee will therefore be well placed to apply for any subsequent permanent vacancies.

You will investigate reports of death and gather and collate evidence to ensure the coroner is in full possession of all the relevant facts upon which to make judicial decisions. You will liaise extensively with health care professionals and provide support and guidance to bereaved families.

You must have previous experience of working in a medical, para medical, nursing, legal, investigative, bereavement or policing role. You must have diligent attention to detail, be thorough and accurate in your record keeping, be competent in the use of Microsoft Office and databases and have a methodical questioning and enquiring approach. You must also have emotional resilience to disassociate from the emotional aspects of dealing with death on a daily basis.
