Estates Assistant

Bromley College is the major provider of vocational education and training in the Bromley area. We provide a distinctive range of courses for young people and a wide range of professional and employment related qualifications for adults.

We are currently seeking two experienced Estates Assistants to join our busy Estates department. The Estates team are responsible for all buildings and external areas of the College sites including heating, lighting, cleaning, reprographics room, postal services, maintenance and security. Tasks include the sorting and delivering post and parcels, porterage duties such as setting out furniture and equipment and cleaning external areas e.g. rubbish removal and emptying litter bins. Working on a rota basis (including evenings and Saturdays), the Estates Assistants will share responsibility for routine and non-routine opening and closing of the buildings and grounds and setting the alarm systems.

The ideal candidates will have a minimum of level 2 literacy and numeracy and a Health and Safety qualification (level 2 or above) or a willingness to complete. Candidates should have experience of cleaning methods for internal and external areas gained in a similar role. The ability to respond to difficult or emergency situations and work effectively on your own initiative both unsupervised and cooperatively are essential qualities for this post. To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to remain calm and professional when placed under pressure.

As the College supports a number of children and vulnerable adults, all staff are exempt from Section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Accordingly, most staff will be subject to either a ‘Standard’ or ‘Enhanced’ DBS (formerly CRB) check.
