We are a homeless charity providing supported accommodation to homeless adults in Kent. We currently require a Bookkeeper to join our busy Finance team. This is a permanent role, where you would be required to work 25 hours a week (five hours a day, five days over seven). The role does require a certain level of flexibility however, and in return it has the following benefits:
- Hourly rate of £10.00 per hour
- 28 days annual leave per year
- Access to an employee pension scheme
Your duties would include line managing a small team of three finance assistants, ensuring that all duties are completed in a timely manner and within agreed deadlines, and conducting quarterly supervision and annual appraisal for each member of the team. You will also be responsible for ensuring that Sage is up to date and accurate as much as possible, maintaining an accurate sales and purchase ledger, processing and balancing petty cash and credit card statements, bank reconciliations, VAT returns, and monitoring the utility bills from each property we manage to ensure that utilities have been set up and the correct bill is being paid. You will also assist the management accountant to produce accurate monthly management accounts, and in preparing for our end of year audit.
The ideal candidate would possess an AAT Intermediate Certificate in Bookkeeping or equivalent ICB/IAB qualification, excellent IT skills with a good working knowledge of Sage 50 and Microsoft Excel, and experience of working in a similar role within a finance team. You will need to be proactive, accurate, and methodical with demonstrable experience of seeing tasks through to completion. You must also be friendly and professional with excellent communication/interpersonal skills, and the ability to be flexible, and work well within a team.
Please note that we are a charity, and due to the nature of our client group we are open 365 days a year. As such, you will be expected to work Christmas, New Year and bank holidays on a rota basis. The successful candidate will also be required to have an enhanced DBS check.
