The Role

The Human Resources department at the University is seeking to appoint an HR Adviser to provide secondment cover for a period of up to one year, supporting the Science Faculty, Information Services and Estates.


The University is a large, complex organisation with a wide and diverse range of staff groups and the HR Advisers are responsible for providing a high quality, professional HR advisory service to directors, heads of schools / departments, managers and staff. In addition the role will support the HR department in the areas of policy development, and will regularly be expected to actively contribute to the wider HR strategic priorities and projects.


The Person

The successful candidate will be CIPD qualified, or hold an equivalent qualification, although applicants offering a substantial level of relevant experience as an alternative will be considered.


Proven recent experience in an HR role providing HR advice to managers and staff is essential. In addition, candidates must be able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of employment legislation and the ability to interpret this into practical and realistic advice. Excellent negotiating and influencing skills, as well as the ability to produce clear, concise written communications, are critical to this role.

The University of Kent employs more than 4,000 people across a range of diverse and often complex activities. The Human Resources team is responsible for providing a framework under which the University’s key strategic asset – its people – is managed.


The Employment Support and Resourcing team within Human Resources currently has three HR Managers, with each manager being responsible for certain Faculties, Schools and Professional Service Departments (portfolios) from across the University. Each of these portfolios is supported by a combination of both HR Advisers and Resourcing Advisers.
